Third pupil in Seaham High School year group tests positive for Covid-19 within 14 days

Three pupils in a County Durham year group have tested positive for coronavirus within two weeks.

Seaham High School has confirmed a Year 8 tutor bubble has been closed as a “precautionary measure” and pupils have been asked to self-isolate.

Head teacher Geoff Lumsdon told parents concerns had been raised with Public Health England that it is the third case in Year 8 within the last 14 days.

Writing to parents via email on November 10, he said: “Unfortunately - I have received notification that a student in Y8 has tested positive for coronavirus.

“I have made the decision to close the Tutor Bubble as a precautionary measure as the child concerned was in school during the infectious period.

“I have raised my concern with Public Health England that this is the third positive case in Year 8 within 14 days.

“I am currently waiting for advice from the Local Health Protection Team with regards to whether the Year Group Bubble needs to close. I will update parents throughout the day as I get advice.

“A number of children who have had close contact either on the way to or from school or at lunch time will have to self isolate too.

“Parents of those children concerned are being contacted directly. Remote learning will be put in place for all students having to self isolate.”
