Third man charged over Sydney gang murder

Comanchero bike boss Tarek Zahed was arrested last month over Youssef Assoum's murder in 2014. (PR HANDOUT) (AAP)

A third man has been charged over the underworld murder of a man in southwest Sydney almost eight years ago.

Youssef Assoum, 29, died at Liverpool Hospital after being stabbed in the head and shot in the thigh in the middle of the night at Bankstown in December 2014.

High-ranking Comanchero bikie Tarek Zahed was arrested last month after returning to Sydney from Melbourne and has been charged with murder.

He remains on remand ahead of a bail review on Wednesday.

Zahed survived an attempt on his own life earlier this year, being shot 10 times as he left an Auburn gym alongside one of his younger brothers in the May ambush.

Omar Zahed, 39, was also shot multiple times, went into cardiac arrest and died at the scene.

Investigators believe the May shooting is not linked to the 2014 killing, which another Zahed brother has also been charged over.

Abdul Zahed, 37, was charged on Tuesday with murder and kidnap in company with intent.

He will face Bankstown Local Court on September 22.

Triantafilos Vlangos, 44, was arrested last week and charged with accessory after the fact to murder for allegedly trying to burn and destroy Assoum's car.
