Third coronavirus case in Leeds confirmed

In the latest breakdown of confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK, the total for Leeds has increased to three.

Last weekend, the first two people in the city tested postiive for the virus - both had become infected on a trip to Iran. Another from Ilkley had caught the disease after recently travelling to Italy.

Across the whole of Yorkshire there are a total of 10 confirmed cases, including the three in Leeds.

No details have been released on the circumstances surrounding the third person from Leeds to test positive. LeedsLive has spoken to the Department of Health, and a spokesperson confirmed that details would remain limited on individual cases due to the frequency of new cases being reported.

The outbreak is having an impact on stock at supermarkets, with panic buying shoppers believed to be the cause of empty loo roll and hand sanitiser shelves in stores.

A Leeds City Council spokeswoman said: "We have been reviewing all of our council business continuity plans to make sure we are in the best possible position to respond, and will continue to monitor them as the situation develops.

"Our staff have been made aware of the national government guidance as it affects them and the council is also following national guidance."
