Third 'Clap For Our Carers' planned tonight to pay tribute to key workers

From NHS staff to teachers, key workers have kept the country running during the coronavirus crisis.

The UK has gone into lockdown to slow the spread of the virus, with people ordered to social distance and remain in their homes as much as possible.

But key workers have continued to go to work everyday to ensure that people are safe, fed and cared for during this time.

For the past two weeks people have shown their appreciation by joining in a round of applause at 8pm on Thursday night.

Is Clap For Our Carers happening tonight?

This means that it will take place at 8pm tonight, with people up and down the UK clapping for NHS staff, teachers, supermarket workers - and any other heroes who are keeping the country running at this time.

The past two weeks saw moving displays of appreciation, with whole streets turning out to support those people working in extremely difficult circumstances.

Coronavirus has so far infected over 60,000 people in the UK, including Prime Minister Boris Johnson and heir to the throne Prince Charles.

Over 7,000 have died from the disease.

How did Clap For Our Carers start?

Dutch yoga teacher Annemarie Plas started the Clap For Our Carers campaign after seeing footage of a similar display in the Netherlands.

She used social media to spread the word, with millions of people eventually joining in with the first clap on Thursday 26 March.

Last week's applause was equally as moving - and hopefully people will turn out for a third time tonight.
