Third case of the Omicron Covid-19 variant confirmed in the UK

A third case of the Omicron Covid-19 variant has been confirmed in the UK, in a person who visited London but has since left the country, the UK Health Security Agency said.

It comes after cases in Nottingham and in Brentwood, Essex were confirmed on Saturday, November 27.

The individuals who tested positive, and all members of their households, were re-tested and told to self-isolate.

The initial two cases are linked, and are linked to travel to South Africa, where the variant has taken hold.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson held an emergency press conference on Saturday evening in the wake of the news of the Omicron variant's detection in Nottingham and Essex.
