Third case of coronavirus in Glasgow confirmed by Scottish Government

The number of cases of coronavirus in Glasgow has risen to three, according to the Scottish Government.

New figures released show that across Scotland, the number of people confirmed to have been diagnosed with the COVID-19 strain of the virus has risen to 18 from 16.

The other confirmed new case of coronavirus is in the Lothian region.

Lanarkshire also had two cases of disease confirmed yesterday.

Diagnoses have also been reported in Tayside, Ayrshire and Arran, Forth Valley, Grampian, Fife and Lothian.

The first case of coronavirus in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area was confirmed three days ago (March 5), while a second person was diagnosed yesterday.

The Scottish Government has stated that 1939 of 1957 tests in Scotland have come back negative.

Yesterday, Scotstoun Sports Campus was closed after a person who uses the stadium was confirmed to have the virus.

Earlier today, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) urged the public not to remove hand sanitisers from Glasgow hospitals amid the growing outbreak.

A spokesperson for the health board said: "We are disappointed at reports of hand sanitiser going missing in hospitals. We would remind people that the most effective way of combating Coronovirus is through regular and thorough hand washing.

"We have good stocks of hand sanitiser throughout NHSGGC and would remind people that hand gel in our wards and public areas is there to protect our staff, visitors and our patients."
