Third bushfire emergency in a week breaks out south of Perth, but no longer threatening lives

A bushfire that threatened lives and homes in the semi-rural suburb of Anketell, about 35 kilometres south of Perth, has been downgraded.

The fire burning near Thomas Road triggered a bushfire emergency warning on Monday afternoon, however, the threat to lives and homes has now eased.

A watch and act warning remains in place for people in an area bounded by Battersby Road, Anketell Road, Tuart Road and Thomas Road.

Authorities say the fire is still out of control and moving in a north-easterly direction.

Ninety firefighters are at the scene, as well as waterbombers.

Officers from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation are also at the scene.

Helicopter vision shows property on several semi-rural blocks on fire, including a boat.

A number of roads in the area have been closed, including Thomas Road from Kwinana Freeway to Tuart Road.

The fire is just a few kilometres from an area where a bushfire tore through last week after originating in Baldivis.

An advice alert is still active for that fire, which has burnt through more than 1,300 hectares.
