Third arrest in alleged stabbing at house in Ely, Cardiff, as victim remains in critical condition

A third person has been arrested in connection with an alleged stabbing in Cardiff.

A 52-year-old woman and 30-year old man were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident in Plymouth Wood Close, Ely, at around 12.30am on Tuesday, August 25.

A third person, a 25-year-old woman, has now been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

She remains in police custody but the man and woman arrested on Tuesday have been bailed pending further enquiries.

The victim of the alleged stabbing, a 36-year-old man, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

On Tuesday, a spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said they were called to reports of a person being "badly injured" at a property in Ely just before 12.30am.

Several ambulances were sent to the scene and one person was taken to hospital.

Eye witnesses reported a heavy police presence in the area in the early hours of Tuesday, and forensic officers were seen entering and leaving a property in Plymouth Wood Close.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "Officers investigating an assault in Ely, in which a man was stabbed, have today arrested a third person.

"A 25-year-old woman from the area was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and attempting to pervert the course of justice, following the incident in Plymouth Wood Close at around 12.30am on Tuesday, August 25. She is currently in police custody."



She added: "A 52-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man who were arrested at the scene of the incident, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, have now been bailed pending further enquiries.

"The victim, a 36-year-old man, remains in a critical condition at the University Hospital of Wales.

"Detectives at the incident room which has been set up at Cardiff Central Police Station, are continuing to appeal to anyone with any information which may assist the investigation to come forward.
