Third-and-Grantham goes in Dawgs’ favor

I jokingly said the only way Georgia could properly punish Todd Grantham for the sins he committed as Georgia’s defensive coordinator was if the Dawgs’ offense converted a series of third-and-longs en route to a close win.

Well, Todd, thank you. You made our dreams come true.

Georgia’s offense went twelve-for-eighteen on third downs in a 24-17 win over Florida on Saturday. The majority of those third-down conversions came on pass plays of over five yards.

Third-and-Grantham finally paid off for the Dawgs.

Lawrence Cager came up big for Georgia’s air attack, beginning his afternoon with a third-and-fourteen conversion on Georgia’s first possession.

Before the sun set in Jacksonville, Cager had recorded 132 yards receiving, including a 52-yard touchdown, a two-point conversion, and three additional third down conversions.

In the game-sealing drive, Jake Fromm hit Eli Wolf for 22 yards on third and seven.

In contrast, offensive guru Dan Mullen’s Gators offense converted two of nine third down attempts.
