BHOPAL: The Raja Bhoj airport got its third aerobridge on Thursday. MP Pragya Thakur inaugurated the aerobridge at the airport. Installation of aerobridge, which has been imported from China, will start by the end of this month. At present Bhopal airport has two aerobridges. The need for another aerobridge was felt after a huge surge in footfall and flight movement in 2019.
Third aerobridge was imported from China. As per the officials, it cost around Rs 3 crore while the complete cost of installing the aerobridge was around Rs 9 cr. Existing two aerobridges in operation were installed by an Indonesian firm in 2014. Incidentally, Bhopal airport has also got the nod for installation of a fourth aerobridge and work on it will start soon.
Before Covid, the traffic was considerably increased at Bhopal. This could be gauged from the fact that till 2019 around 5 lakhs more passengers travelled from Bhopal airport. After Covid the number of flights have also increased and it is Lilley to increase more by next year.
Director Bhopal airport, KL Agarwal said Bhopal airport is getting more traction on the national map. “Things are moving in the right direction. Infrastructure at Bhopal airport is getting bigger,” he pointed out, adding that with the installation of third aerobridge facilities will definitely be increased.
After the inauguration of the aerobridge, a meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee was held, which was presided over by MP Thakur and MLA (Huzur), Rameshwar Sharma who were present as vice-presidents. In the meeting, director airport Agarwal invited all the members.
