'Things will happen now' - Erling Haaland makes Borussia Dortmund future claim amid Liverpool rumours

Erling Haaland has revealed that Borussia Dortmund are pushing him to make a decision over his future and hinted he could decide his next move in the coming weeks.

The 21-year-old forward is one of European football’s hottest properties having averaged around a goal a game for the past two seasons.

Haaland has netted 78 goals in 77 games for Dortmund since joining them in the 2020 January transfer window from Red Bull Salzburg.

That impressive form has resulted in the forward being linked with a host of top clubs around Europe, including Liverpool.

The Norway international has also been linked with moves to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United over the past year.

Red Bull Salzburg Sporting Director Christoph Freund c laimed last year that Haaland 'will land' at Liverpool instead of United or Real if he leaves the German side.

And speaking after Dortmund’s 5-1 win over Freiburg at Signal Iduna Park on Friday night, Haaland admitted 'things will start to happen now' as the German side have made it clear to him that he has to decide his future.

“The last six months I have chosen not to say anything out of respect for Dortmund, but now the club has started to press me into making a decision,” the forward told Viaplay.

“All I want to do is play football. But they press me … about my future, so that means I have to make a decision soon.”

Before Haaland continued: “They have started to put a lot of pressure on me and I have to accept that. I have chosen not to say anything out of respect for the club and the fans.

“But now that a lot of pressure is coming from the club, so it is the time to get things started.

"It means things will happen now.

“I have said from the beginning I want to focus on football, because that's when I am at my best. Not when other things come into my mind.”

The forward then concluded, saying: “Not now because we're in the middle of a difficult period with a lot of games. All I want to do is to play football, but I can't do that now.”

The 21-year-old is believed to have a €75m release clause in his contract which comes into effect this summer.

And speaking after Haaland’s interview, Dortmund CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, failed to deny the forward’s claims that the club wanted him to make a decision on his future soon.

He said: “There’s no problem with Erling. He is a spontaneous person. He’s allowed to do that. But he must also have some understanding for our situation – we can’t wait until the end of May.”
