Things to do with the kids at home this Easter holidays

The Easter holidays are here at last and if you've got little people in your life you'll be thinking of ways to keep them busy - that don't all involve scoffing chocolate.

Now that places are beginning to reopen, we've already put together a list of days out and events, but you'll no doubt still be spending quite a lot of time at home over the break.

That's why we've been looking at things to do to celebrate Easter at home - and if you don't find anything that you fancy here, then take a look at our list of 50 fun things to do with the kids for some more inspiration.

Easter activity sheets

Whether it's colouring in their own Easter egg, tracing Easter words, or playing spot the difference, there are all sorts of activity sheets that can be printed off to keep the kids busy for a while.

Orchard Toys has lots of free downloads on its website here.

There are instructions for other crafts too, like making your own bunny mask or chick cup.

Egg decorating

Of course Easter isn't Easter without a bit of egg decorating.

Not all schools are doing the competitions this year, because of Covid restrictions, but some children are still being asked to submit designs from home.

We've had some fabulous creations shared with us in previous years. Check out the gallery here for some inspiration and we'd love to see your designs on our Manchester Family Facebook page.

Egg / treasure / nature hunt

Whether you want to do it with eggs or not, there's all sorts of fun to be had with a treasure hunt.

Give each child a bag with a list on showing what they have to find - a leaf, a flower, a painted pebble - you get the picture.

And if you want to stay indoors then why not hide some letters or words around the house. They can find them and then use them to make words and sentences. They won't even realise they're learning.

There are loads of ideas for nature scavenger hunts from the Woodland Trust here.

Lush Egg hunt

Or why not plan an egg hunt with a difference with some Easter bath treats from Lush.

The handmade cosmetics company has launched some new products with its spring collection, with everything from The Owl and The Pussycat bath bomb that floats on a pea green boat, to a Walter Bunny chocolate body butter, or even Humpty Dumpty bath bomb with its own egg inside.

The Bunny Buttercheeks includes two bath bombs in a gift set, or you can get some Easter-themed bags and knot wraps to put the gifts inside.

Order online now and you can still get them in time for Easter weekend.

Easter bunting

Why not go all out and decorate the house with some Easter bunting too.

There are loads pf printables available online, like these letter ones from Baker Ross, or egg designs from Twinkl.

Chocolate pizza / breakfast

Of course chocolate will no doubt be playing a big part in the holidays.

We reported earlier how Morrisons is even selling an Easter pizza this year, topped with chocolate and mini eggs along with cookie dough and cream cheese.

The 10-inch stonebaked pizza costs £2.89, but it would be pretty simple to make some dough and come up with your own creation.

And if you really don't know what to do with all that Easter chocolate, why not create your own choc fest of a breakfast.

Use those Creme Eggs for dippy eggs or a toastie, or go all out with a full English.

Creme Eggs

While we're talking Creme Eggs there are loads of recipes you can use them in too.

In fact Card Factory is selling its own Creme Egg cookbook with personalised boxes of the treats this Easter.

You can get a personalised box of 10 eggs for £12.99, or the eggs and cookbook for £17.99 - with £5 off if you buy any two. Order online here.

Baking

Baking has become more popular than ever during lockdown and you don't have to look far to find some Easter recipes.

Tesco has shared its own recipe for these Easter nest cupcakes here...

(Manchester Evening News)

or you could go for the simpler vanilla cupcakes recipe.

And if you want to make things even easier Dr Oetker has a chocolate cake mix, to which you just need to add eggs, oil, water and icing.

Or if you want to get the children using their brains a bit more, check out the brand's new Spectacular Science! Stretchy Slime Mix.

The kits, £2 from Asda, will help them learn the process of gelatinisation and how liquids and solids react to create stretchy slime.
