Things to do in Merseyside parks during National Parks Fortnight

National Parks Fortnight is underway, so it's the perfect time to visit on of Merseyside's beautiful parks.

There are lots of things to do and discover in our green spaces, from enjoying the scenery and the wildlife to getting some exercise.

Whether you visit them to walk the dog, or have an entire day out, there's nothing better than spending some time in the great outdoors and escaping the buzz of modern life.

National Parks Fortnight takes place between Saturday April 6 and Sunday April 21 2019. Here is a list of some of the things you can do in our stunning Merseyside parks to make the most of it.

Enjoy the daffodils

Walking in the daffodils can be a pleasant experience.

After all, when Wordsworth wrote his poem about daffodils he gave a sense that they bring utopia when he wrote: "Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze."

There are millions of them in our city parks.

Look at the Cherry Blossoms

Cherry blossoms are a beautiful sight and you can see them in all of their glory in many of our city parks at this time of year.

As well as pink and white they can sometimes appear in yellow, gold and even green.

They look stunning when bursting with colour.

Watch out for the herons

Watch out for the wildlife in our city parks.

In Sefton Park you can see a resident heron and you can see two of them in Newsham Park sometimes, too.

They catch the fish.

It's amazing to watch them fly and see them drop from the tree tops and then swoop to catch fish they have been eyeing up.

Liverpool Art Fair is returning to city centre for 11 weeks this summer

Go for a walk

Taking a stroll in the park is a good for your soul and walking is a popular form of daily exercise.

So why not put on your trainers and take in some fresh air?

A morning walk can give you the best start to the day.

Watch the squirrels

Watching the squirrels can be fun - and they often capture the imaginations of children.

They run in zig-zag shapes and they race up trees and across telephone branches.

The little furry animals play in the branches and look about for nuts to eat.
