Liverpool always seems extra special at Christmas time with plenty of festive things to do in and around the city.
From picturesque strolls to see the Christmas lights, to warming up with a cup of hot chocolate, there's so many ways to enjoy the most wonderful time of the year.

Tuck into a festive afternoon tea
Afternoon tea is a lovely treat on any day, but it’s always extra special when it’s a festive version.
This year, there are plenty of places serving up a Christmassy food for you and your loved one to enjoy.
The Titanic Hotel is offering a fabulous festive afternoon tea with festive sandwiches and moreish sweet treats.
Wash it down with tea or coffee, or be extra and opt for a glass of mulled wine or champagne.
Visit Malmaison’s for their Christmas afternoon tea until December 30, or Yard & Coop if you fancy something more fun.
Admire the Christmas lights

Take your partner by the hand and admire the twinkling Christmas lights dotted around the city this Christmas.
As always, the Royal Albert Dock is lit up for the festive season and the festive Light Trail is in full swing.
So, grab yourself a hot drink and get some selfies because these Christmas lights can be pretty romantic.

Grab a cosy hot chocolate
It’s that time of year where it’s perfectly acceptable to overload on sugary hot chocolates with lashings of cream.
A walk around the city with a nice hot drink to warm your cockles is a perfect and inexpensive way to spend time with your other half.
The city centre isn’t short of Costa’s, and if you head to the Starbucks in Liverpool ONE you’re perfectly located for Christmas shopping.
Take a spin on the ice
Running until January 3, Liverpool Ice Festival will be taking over the waterfront at Pier Head.
With a fully stocked Alpine Bar and festive food aplenty, grab a drink and try your very best not to fall over on the ice rink.
What’s more romantic than laughing at your partner slipping and sliding on ice?
Visit the Christmas market
Much to everyone’s delight the Liverpool’s Christmas Market is back this year after being cancelled in 2020 due to Covid, but there are now only a few days left to visit the market.
Go on a festive ride with your loved one for a laugh, or explore the 40 stalls filled with delicious food, drink, and gifts.
The market is at St John’s Gardens, William Brown Street and the North Entrance of St George’s Hall. Liverpool Christmas Market is open this week from 11am to 9pm with the final day on December 23. Find out more about Liverpool’s Christmas market here.
Enjoy drinks underneath the Christmas tree
Festive pop up bar ‘Bar Hütte’ returned this year, featuring alpine cabins filled with cosy fabrics and twinkling lights.
Whether you fancy a spot of karaoke or just a quiet drink with your partner, you’re bound to be feeling festive after your visit.
Although bookings are advised, walk-ins are also welcome, and they’ve even got a brand new ‘doggy grotto’ if you want to get your pup involved.
The bar is open until New Year's Day. Opening times are:
- Christmas week (Monday 20th – Thursday 23rd): 10am – 11pm
- Christmas Eve: 10am – 8pm
- Christmas Day: Closed
- Boxing Day: 11am – 8pm
- New Year’s Eve 11am – 11pm

See a festive show
Since it’s the season to be jolly, catch a festive show with that special person this year to celebrate Christmas.
There's plenty of choice across Merseyside, including Cinderella at the M&S Bank Arena too, Robin Hood at the Everyman and Goldilocks at St Helens Theatre Royal.

Take a winter walk around Sefton Park
Sefton Park is beautiful any time of year, but it’s especially wonderful during winter time - especially if there’s snow.
The 235 acre park is a great option for a picturesque walk with a boating lake, coffee shop and an impressive bandstand.
The Palm House in the park is also a must-see, filled with a historic selection of colourful plants.
Go out for dinner
There’s so many options for food in Liverpool with a restaurant to suit everybody’s taste.
A nice romantic meal with your loved one is a great way to celebrate Christmas and enjoy good food at the same time.
