Things to do in Dublin: Ireland's first ever buggy parade is coming to the capital and it's super cute

Ireland’s first ever buggy parade is coming to Dublin and it’s super adorable!

The parade will launch the inaugural Our Balbriggan Grasshoppers Festival which is aimed at kids under six years of age.

The festival is set to take place between August 16 and 18 and will celebrate the fact that Balbriggan has the youngest population in the country.

The festival will kick off with a big “push” at 5.30 pm on Friday, August 16.

Locals have been invited to decorate their prams or buggies and join the parade from Market Green.

Emer O’Gorman, Fingal County Council’s Director of Economic, Enterprise and Tourism Development, said: “We have already enjoyed a number of fantastic summer festivals and, as the Plan develops, there is more to come which the whole area will enjoy.”

Festival goers will have the opportunity to attend workshops but places are limited so parents, families, and care-givers have been advised to book early by emailing actinguparts3@gmail.com.

Over the weekend, there will also be an exhibition of 'Our Community' preschool artwork in the library.

The festival is being organised by Cliodhna Noonan of Acting Up! Arts who is highly regarded for developing new and innovative art projects for early years.

Ms Noonan said: “This project is dedicated to our youngest citizens, the 0-6 year olds and their families.

"We have 100 pieces of art work to display, drawn or relayed by the children and those depictions of colour, vibrancy and activity clearly shows that they love where they live.

"Balbriggan has the youngest population in Ireland and this festival is something to bring the community together while also adding an international flavour with visiting companies who regularly celebrate the youngest people in communities all over mainland Europe.”
