Things to do at home during lockdown: The best online and virtual events taking place today

We’re weeks into it now, and the UK like the rest of the world is still in the grips of the coronavirus lockdown.

Things are tough out there, but there’s a silver lining – the UK’s cultural output has moved online, and millions of us have been tuning in for theatre shows, live comedy and art exhibitions from our sofas.

Nightlife, too, has been making its way into people’s homes through virtual club nights, and people are finding ways of enjoying live music during testing times.

Join Offset and friends for a VR gig

Migos rapper Offset is gathering some of his musical pals for this fundraiser, generating money for the Atlanta Community Foodbank. Young Thug, Rich the Kid, and SAINt JHN are confirmed performers. It's a virtual reality show, meaning anyone with an Oculus headset can get the full experience. If not, then it'll be live on Facebook too. Tune in from 9pm.

Take part in an interactive whiskey series

Bushmills Irish Whiskey is launching an immersive series today, called Black Bush Stories, which sees whiskey experts and presents Neil Ridley and Joel Harrison lead whiskey masterclasses and welcome a range of interesting guests. First up, they’ll be joined by Michelin-starred charcuterie expert Rob Krawczyk from 8pm on Instagram Live.

Tune in for a powerful performance from the English National Ballet

The English National Ballet is keeping arts lovers entertained from home by broadcasting a performance of Akram Khan's Dust live on YouTube this evening. The expressive piece was performed to commemorate the centenary of the First World War in 2014 and will be on-demand for 48 hours from 7pm.

See DMA’s live in concert

DMA’s were one of the many bands forced into postponing a string of shows due to the pandemic, but they were lucky enough to squeeze in a sold-out show at Brixton Academy in March. The Aussie indie-rock trio will be streaming footage from 9pm on their YouTube and Facebook pages.
