Things to do at home during lockdown: The best online and virtual events taking place today

We’re weeks into it now, and the UK like the rest of the world is still in the grips of the coronavirus lockdown.

Things are tough out there, but there’s a silver lining – the UK’s cultural output has moved online, and millions of us have been tuning in for theatre shows, live comedy and art exhibitions from our sofas.

Nightlife, too, has been making its way into people’s homes through virtual club nights, and people are finding ways of enjoying live music during testing times.

See IDLES live from Paris

Bristol rockers IDLES are screening footage from their show at the Bataclan in Paris all this week. It’s been split into four parts and the second section will be played tonight from 7pm, accompanied with a live Q&A with a member of the band. On Friday, the whole concert will be screened and frontman Joe Talbot will be taking questions.

Take a pub quiz with the Big Drop Brewing Co.

Low-alcohol beer brand Big Drop Brewing Co. is hosting its weekly Living Room Pub Quiz on YouTube Live tonight from 7pm. Entry is free of charge, and can be enjoyed with one of Big Drop’s award-winning 0.5 per cent ABV beers, which are currently available for home delivery. There are no overall prizes, but there will be giveaways announced throughout the evening.

Hear Judi Dench in conversation

Arts lovers can hear one of the UK’s most-loved actors speak about her life and career from today, and support a good cause while they’re at it. Judi Dench in conversation with Gyles Brandreth, filmed in 2017, has been made available for download today in support of the Orange Tree Theatre, with the £4.99 fee going to support its Survival Fund.
