Things to do at home during lockdown: The best online and virtual events taking place this weekend - June 12-14

You know the drill by now: things are starting to ease a little, but we’re still socially distancing and trying to figure out which pub doing takeaway pints is closest to the park.

Still, the internet has done it's thing, with theatre, comedy and art exhibitions all headed online.

Besides, there's light on the horizon: more restaurants are opening for delivery, there are plenty of online cocktail and wine masterclasses to get stuck into and cinemas are hopeful of opening soon as well.

Watch the first ever virtual boat race

Olympic, Paralympic, World Championship and club rowers are set to take part in the first ever virtual MCH.London Boat Race this weekend, following the cancellation of the real thing. Races will see competitors take part on indoor rowing machines, with the races designed to raise money for Power2Inspire, a charity promoting inclusion through sport. Tune in at 3pm on Saturday to watch and donate.

Check out the National Theatre at Home series

The National Theatre has been digging into its archives to share plays for free with the public throughout lockdown, going live with new shows from Thursday at 7pm each week and on demand afterwards. This week it’s the turn of Nottingham Playhouse's The Madness of George III, with Mark Gatiss putting in a fine performance.

Take part in The Conscious Festival

This virtual festival, organised by Green Is The New Black, is all about wellbeing, business, fashion and the planet. Get involved from Friday, with guest speakers, DJ sets, live chats with artists and networking events across the weekend.

Get saucy with a Dirty Bones box

To celebrate the government have announced that single-person households could form a ‘support bubble’ with another household, Dirty Bones has launched new Get Dirty at Home meal kits, helping couples enjoy romantic date nights indoors. The kits include Mac Daddy Burger, Lamb Fries and cocktail mixers, made for couples to want to celebrate seeing each other for the first time since lockdown.

Watch opera live from Covent Garden

Classic music fans, this one's for you. The first live performances to come from the Royal Opera House since it closed its doors will be broadcast for free live on YouTube, Facebook and the BBC on Saturday at 7pm, including works by Handel and Benjamin Britten, and a world premiere from Wayne McGregor.

Tune in for the Isle of Wight Front Room Festival

Absolute Radio will broadcast a weekend’s worth of classic gigs from previous editions of the Isle of Wight festival starting on Friday, making up for its cancellation this summer. Expect music from David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones and many more. It's not the only Isle of Wight virtual recreation happening, either, with sets from across the years being broadcast on Sky Arts at 7pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

Host Friday night rave with Boiler Room’s Low Heat

Low Heat, the online club night organised by Boiler Room, welcomes Berlin party Floorgasm, with LSDXOXO, Wallis and DJ Hyperdrive on the decks. Donations for Black Lives Matter will be collected before and during the event, which takes place from 10pm-1am on Friday.

The cancelled rock music festival is making up for its absence with an online programme of events featuring much of their planned 2020 line-up — expect everything from archive sets and interviews to doom yoga and KISS make-up tutorials all weekend from Friday until Sunday.
