Things to do at home during lockdown: The best online and virtual events taking place this bank holiday weekend

Another week of the lockdown has come and gone, and now it’s time to log on for some virtual and online fun over the bank holiday weekend.

There are virtual gigs, VE Day tributes and online supper clubs to keep us all entertained, with workers across the UK enjoying an extra day off on Friday.

Things are tough out there, but with millions of us tuning in for these online events, as well as theatre shows, live comedy and art exhibitions from our sofas, there are plenty of ways to feel connected even in isolation.

Join Love Island’s Laura Whitmore for a virtual dinner party

Laura Whitmore is the hostess with the mostess on Thursday, when she’ll be welcoming viewers to join her for a virtual dinner party. Whitmore is teaming up with Grey Goose for the event, and you can guarantee there’ll be plenty of cocktail making to get involved with throughout the night. Tune in from 5pm.

Go clubbing with Homoelectric’s Stay Homo

Clubbing favourite Homoelectric is throwing a wild 12-hour rave this weekend, with some big names on the line-up — expect sets from The Black Madonna, Roisin Murphy, Horse Meat Disco and more from midday to midnight on Sunday.

Party with Notting Hill Carnival's biggest soundsystem​

Notting Hill carnival is no longer happening this year, but people can get a little taste this weekend. Carnival’s biggest soundsystem Rampage is hosting a virtual festival this weekend, with three hours of dancehall, soca and good vibes from 6pm on Saturday.

Secret Cinema’s latest series of self-isolation film screening continues with Casino Royale, taking place from 7.30pm on Friday. Grab your black tie, fix yourself a martini and head to the Secret Cinema site to get involved in interactive games and activities online.

Watch Katherine Jenkins' VE Day tribute

The Welsh mezzo-soprano is marking the 75th anniversary of VE Day with a special performance performed live in an empty Royal Albert Hall. She’ll sing through a number of wartime favourites, including a virtual duet with Dame Vera Lynn for We’ll Meet Again. Tune in from 6pm on Friday.

Take a virtual wine tour

Take a virtual walk down Burgundy’s famous wine road La Route des Grands Crus from your living room, all thanks to Chateau De Pommard. More than 1,000 people so far have taken part in the guided experience, with expert speakers sharing insight into wine making techniques and the region’s terroir. Guests can also choose to have crates of wine delivered to them at home, too.

Sports fans have had a tough time of it over recent weeks, but there’s action for darts lovers to get stuck into over the weekend. The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) has taken things online, with daily matches ready to watch from 7.30pm. Settle in for a night of the arrows, and see some of the best players in the world in action.

The latest instalment of the YouTube film festival arrives this Friday with a screening of David Gilmour Live at Pompeii, filmed in 2017. See the musician perform in front of a sold-out crowd inside a Roman amphitheatre from 7pm.
