Things spotted in England training show influence of Leeds United stars

For the latest round of international fixtures, Kalvin Phillips was joined by his Leeds United teammate Patrick Bamford as England prepared for a trio of World Cup Qualifiers.

Phillips has been a regular in Gareth Southgate's England squad since he received his first Three Lions cap in 2020.

However, this time, Bamford was able to join his Elland Road teammate as he received his first call-up following his 17-goal haul for Marcelo Bielsa s side in their return to the Premier League last season - Bamford's tally meant he was the league's fourth highest scorer and the second-highest Englishman, only behind the prolific Harry Kane.

And following the latest batch of photos from England training, it appears that Bamford has wasted no time in settling into Southgate's squad.

The pictures show Bamford and Phillips laughing and smiling with various England teammates such as Kieran Trippier, Jude Bellingham and Jordan Henderson.

Since he took the job in 2016, Southgate has been praised extensively for the atmosphere and feeling he has created in the camps, with many citing this as a huge contributing factor to the on-field success the team have enjoyed in recent major tournaments.

And even off the field, Bamford seems to be creating a close friendship with Bellingham, as the two exchanged banter on social media earlier in the week, with the Dortmund star posting an image next to Leeds' No.9 with the caption 'looking after my son', to which Bamford replied 'wow'.

The social media activities throughout the camp personify the feel-good factor around representing the national team at the moment, something many previous stars have admitted wasn't present during their generation.

England face Poland in Warsaw this evening in the final game of this international break before Leeds duo Phillips and Bamford return to Yorkshire ahead of Sunday's clash against Liverpool, and it's fair to say the duo will have certainly benefited from the harmony in Southgate's camp.
