Late night talk show hosts have reacted to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired in the UK last night (8 March).

The special, which was shown in the US on CBS the night before, saw the Duke and Duchess of Sussex make a number of revelations about their private lives and the British royal family.

Among these was the claim that an unnamed member of the royal family had expressed “concerns” over Meghan’s baby’s skin tone when she was pregnant with Archie, her first child.

During his opening monologue on Late Night, Stephen Colbert said: “If you didn’t catch it, things got real, real quick.

“I’m gonna go on a limb here and say there’s a possibility that this medieval, selective breeding program might be racist.”

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, host Jimmy Kimmel joked: “Harry said racism was a big part of their decision to leave... You know things are bad at Buckingham Palace if they came to America to get away from racism.”

On The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon started his monologue by joking: “Well guys, I have some news to make people feel a little better, and that is: The royal family is just as messed up as everyone else is.”

Fallon described the interview as “an intense and emotional two hours”, adding: “Good on Meghan Markle, for being brave enough to talk about her mental health struggles, all the stuff she had to deal with.”

In the UK, the interview can be streamed now on ITV Hub.
