Thin Lizzy frontman's mum Philomena Lynott passes away aged 88

Phil Lynott's mum Philomena Lynott has passed away aged 88.

The mum of the Thin Lizzy frontman had been battling lung cancer for a number of years.

Philomena's memoir My Boy became a No 1 bestseller when released in 1995.

The Dubliner fought off lung cancer in 2015 after getting radiotherapy treatment.

However, a scan in August 2017 revealed the devastating news that it had returned.

She was in fine spirits at the National Wax Museum in February 2018, as she unveiled artworks of her and Phil - who died in 1986 at the age of 36.

She said the waxwork left her speechless and noted that she would be on the end of some slagging if her son was still around.

Tributes have been pouring in for the Crumlin native.
