Thieves who plundered goods from Currys stores jailed

Two men who plundered electrical goods from Currys shops in the Bristol area have been jailed.

Damain Edwards and Trevor Barnard stole an array of items from stores in Cribbs Causeway, Haverfordwest and Yeovil.

They were recognised on CCTV and tracked down.

Edwards, 37, and Barnard, 40, both from Hampshire, both pleaded guilty to three thefts.

Judge Michael Longman jailed Edwards for 21 months and Barnard for 18 months.

He told them: "They do have the hallmarks of offences planned by seasoned offenders.

"They fall into the category of high culpability."

Lucy Taylor, prosecuting via video link, told Bristol Crown Court the pair stole electrical goods from a Currys store in Haverford West on October 4, 2019.

Barnard, who had been banned from all Currys stores since 2018, was identified via CCTV.

Miss Taylor said the men stole cameras from a Currys in Yeovil on December 20, 2019, and Barnard was again identified on CCTV.

In a final raid on a Currys at Cribbs Causeway the men stole four Fitbit watches, which were recovered after they were intercepted by police.

Miss Taylor said Currys was seeking compensation in the sum of £2,252 for items stolen which were not recovered.

Both men's barristers said their remorseful clients had lost work due to Covid-19 and had struggled with drink and drugs.
