Thieves wearing boiler suits steal two tills and entire perfume stock from Cork pharmacy

Two thieves dressed in boiler suits broke into a Cork pharmacy overnight, stealing two tills and clearing out the perfume section.

The shocking incident happened just before 4am on Main Street in Midleton this morning.

The culprits smashed through the glass doors of Owennacurra Pharmacy and robbed the tills as well as an entire shelf of perfumes, Cork Beo reports.

It is understood a large clean-up operation happened at the scene in the early hours of the morning, with businesses owner Nicky Quill appealing for witnesses to come forward.

She told Cork Beo: “We’ve 16 cameras so we have a clear video of what happened. I heard about it just before 4am when we got a call from the alarm company who said the alarm was going off.

“I have the CCTV on my mobile and when I checked there was nobody in the shop, but once I came off the phone with the alarm company, I said to Shane (her husband) that I noticed there was stuff on the floor.

“We then saw that the tills were gone, along with the perfume shelf, all gone.

“We met the guards at the shop and there was nobody there. We watched the CCTV again with the guards.”

Nicky then explained how the burglary was carried out.

She continued: “They came in with what looked like a duvet, dressed in boiler suits and gloves.

“One of them loaded all the perfumes into the duvet and dragged it out over their shoulder like a big sack, while the other took the two tills. They were only new tills that we got two weeks ago.”

Nicky is appealing for anyone with information or anyone who notices perfumes being sold at knock-down prices in the next few weeks to come forward.

She added: “The guards are following a definite line of enquiry.

"Anyone who notices perfumes being sold at big discount prices please come forward. I’m also going to post a list of all the stolen perfumes on our Facebook page.”

A garda spokesman confirmed that they are investigating the incident.

He said: “Gardaí are investigating a burglary that occurred at a pharmacy on Main Street, Midleton on the 29th May 2019 at approximately 4am.

“No arrests have been made and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.”
