Residents living in West Lothian and Midlothian are being warned to be "vigilant" by police following a spate of break-ins.
The warning comes after four care homes in these areas were targeted over the weekend, on Sunday (1 March).
Thieves smashed the windows of Limecroft Residential Home, in Livingston, and Archview Lodge Care Home, in Dalkeith, in a bid to gain access to the administration areas.
It is understood that no one was injured during the indicent.
Meanwhile, there were a further two attempted break-ins at Drummond Grange Nursing Home, in Lasswade, and Pine Villa Nursing Home in Hawthorn Gardens, in Loanhead.
Staff at Drummond Grange Nursing Home confronted four men outside the building, who were dressed in black and had various tools. Three of the men ran off while one man threatened staff.
Detectives believe that the incidents are linked and are on the hunt for those repsonisble.
Detective Inspector Ben Leathes said: “It’s imperative we trace the people responsible for these crimes. We will continue to review CCTV footage from the premises for any additional information which could assist our investigation.
"I would appeal to members of the public for any information regarding these incidents or anyone who has information on those responsible to please contact us."
