Thieves take entire cash machine from Twycross Zoo

Police say an entire cash machine was stolen from the main entrance of Twycross Zoo yesterday.

The thieves broke into the Himalaya visitor centre and took the free-standing ATM in the early hours of yesterday morning (April 16).

The break-in happened around 5.35am, reports LeicestershireLive .

Police are examining CCTV to try to identify the thieves.

No-one was injured in the incident and no animals have been hurt.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: "Officers responded to an alarm activation at Twycross Zoo yesterday at about 5.35am yesterday.

"On arrival, it was found an ATM machine had been stolen from the main entrance to the zoo.

"No-one was in the area at the time and no injuries have been reported.

"No other items are believed to have been stolen and no harm is believed to have been caused to any animals. 

"Enquiries are ongoing."

A spokesman for the zoo declined to comment about the theft.

The zoo is open as normal.
