Thieves take dumper truck for a joy-ride and leave trail of destruction in their wake

This is the trail of destruction left by thieves who took a stolen dumper truck for a joyride.

Fences and gates were smashed down on a bridleway through Rochdale beauty spot Healey Dell.

The truck is thought to have been stolen from Cowm Park Way in Whitworth some time on Saturday morning.

It was later found by police dumped in New Street in Shawclough, Rochdale.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and CCTV of the truck's movements.

In a post on Facebook Rossendale Police wrote: "Following reports of a dumper truck travelling through Whitworth causing damage, Officers have quickly got to the scene and tracked the dumper to just over the border into Rochdale.

"The vehicle has now been recovered."
