Thieves steal ‘irreplaceable’ locket from 91-year-old in home burglary

Heartless burglars have stolen much-loved jewellery from a 91-year-old woman in Beckenham by pretending to be boiler repair men.

An “irreplaceable” locket the woman was given by her mother and father on her 18th birthday - which contained pictures of her late parents - was among items stolen.

Police say the victim has been left feeling “utterly helpless” following the daylight burglary, which happened around 2pm on Tuesday, June 27.

Scotland Yard on Tuesday released computer-generated images of the two suspects.

The woman was at her home, in the Kelsey Park area of Beckenham, when two men knocked on the door, claiming to be there to repair a leak in the boiler.

While she was distracted they searched her home, before fleeing with jewellery including a locket, and a number of bracelets.

Police say “extensive enquiries” have been conducted, but nobody has yet been arrested.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Francis, said: “This horrible ordeal has left this elderly woman feeling utterly helpless.

“The stolen locket especially is of enormous and irreplaceable sentimental value. I urge any local people, or jewellers, who may have been offered such an item for sale, to please contact us immediately.”
