Thieves steal from unattended vehicles in Chatham: police

Police are warning South Side residents after someone took items from unattended vehicles in Chatham in July.

In each case, the suspect broke into people’s vehicles while they were at the movies or shopping and took items including cash, clothes, shoes and in one case, a handgun, Chicago police said.

The thefts happened in the afternoon and evening hours of July 13 in the 100 and 200 blocks of West 87th Street, police said.

In one case, the suspect was described as an 18 to 22-year-old man who is 6-foot-4 and 160 pounds.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call Area South detectives at 312-747-8273.
