Thieves steal cash after conning their way into elderly couple's Dumbarton home

Callous thieves conned their way into an elderly couple’s home before making off with money stolen from a handbag.

Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses and warning the public to be on their guard following the bogus caller incident on Wednesday, February 12.

The couple both aged 81, were within their home in Clyde Court, West Bridgend, at around 1.30pm when the buzzer to their front door went off.

The elderly male occupier answered the door and was met by a man who stated he was in attendance with regards to an electrical wire which was hitting off of the occupier’s window.

The pensioner allowed him access to his property and a second suspect followed and entered.

One of the men spoke with the elderly woman but left when she asked for identification.

The victim realised money had been taken from within her handbag once both of the men had made their escape and contacted police.

One of the males is described as being white, approximately 5 foot 9 inches tall, of slim build and was wearing a black jacket, black beanie hat and glasses.

If you have any information, please contact 101 quoting crime reference number LA03160220.

Police Scotland would remind anyone, and particularly elderly members of the community – if anyone comes to your door, always ask for identification.

Always close and lock your door while you contact the company or the Police in order to check they are genuine before allowing anyone access to your home. Use a door chain to ensure they cannot gain entry until you are satisfied with their identity.
