Thieves smash boulder through house door as terrified Leeds woman hides upstairs

A terrified Leeds woman barricaded herself in an upstairs room while thieves smashed a boulder through a glass door to gain entry to her home.

The woman, who did not want to be named, has lived in the Churwell area for the past 20 years and said she has never felt unsafe before.

But she was left traumatised on Monday night by the reckless break-in, which saw a large rock launched through a glass back door.

Speaking to LeedsLive today, the woman said: "I'm still in shock about it. I've lived here for 20 years and never felt unsafe.

"Everyone is commenting but they don't know until it happens to them. I only want to make them aware so they can keep safe."

She is now looking to put extra security in place to discourage anything like this from happening again.

She added that West Yorkshire Police were "amazing" and responded to the call within ten minutes.
