Thieves on bikes are snatching mobile phones from people's hands in the city centre

Police have warned people to be wary of city centre thieves on bikes who have been snatching mobile phones.

The method has been used on several occasions in recent days, according to Greater Manchester Police.

The force is now warning pedestrians in the city centre to keep their phones safely secured inside a bag or in pockets.

Officers from the city centre sent out a warning about the practice on social media on Friday (September 4).

GMP Manchester City Centre tweeted: “Keep an eye out - We're experiencing a number of theft from persons in the City, whereby offenders on bikes are snatching mobile phones from people's hands.

“If you're not using your phone, place in your pocket or inside your closed bag for safe keeping.”
