Thieves nick World War Two Jeep from Scots farm in night time raid

A probe has been launched after a World War Two era American jeep was stolen from a Scots farm.

The iconic Willys vehicle, emblazoned with the stars and stripes, was nicked from Swellhead Farm, Blairs, Aberdeen.

Owners reported a break in on Thursday night and found the car had vanished and other items had been stolen.

The open-top, army green car is described as 'very distinctive' and anyone with information has been asked to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We received a report of a break-in to a shed at Swellhead Farm, Blairs, Aberdeen on Thursday, 27 August.

"The break-in is believed to have happened between Tuesday 25 August and Thursday 27 August and a number of items were stolen including a World War Two jeep."

She added: "Anyone with any information about the incident should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 3499 of 27 August."

The Jeep was used by Allied forces in the Second World War from 1941 and was used in many major battles.

US soldiers also used the vehicle in the Korean War.

Around 650,000 are thought to have been made.

Locals online have hit out at the theft of the 'immaculate' car.

One wrote: "The Willys jeep was allegedly the inspiration for the Land Rover. This one looks immaculate, I hope that it is recovered, a fantastic vehicle."

Another added: "That is such a smart looking jeep. Hope the owner gets it back. I agree with others that this could have been stolen to order. Makes me mad these people who do this."
