Thieves in East Kilbride steal van containing more than £14k worth of tools

A van containing more than £14,000 worth of tools has been nicked from East Kilbride- the latest in dozens of thefts in recent weeks.

Overnight  into February 20 at Chatham in Westwood the grey Vauxhall van was stolen containing tools and other times worth the six-figure sum.

And last night at Gateshaw Wynd in Strathaven a Ford Transit van was also taken.

Police have warned drivers to be extra vigilant in making sure their vehicles are secure with a spate of vehicle thefts and vandalism in the town and surrounding area.

Just last month a Greenhills taxi driver who transports additional needs children to and from high school had is cab stolen.

Popular John John Finnegan, 48, was inundated with messages of support after  he went out  around 8am to start the school run from his Ash Avenue home only to discover that his black Ford Transit Tourneo mini bus had been stolen.

And on the same night  a self-employed locksmith had his van containing £3000 worth of tools stolen from nearby Troon Avenue.

Anyone with information on the latest thefts should contact police on 101.
