Two women were being hunted for allegedly drugging an elderly woman before ransacking her house in Lampang's Thoen district and making off with 75,000 baht in cash and gold ornaments.
Local police yesterday went to the house in tambon Mae Wa after being alerted to the crime.
Yodkaew Suyalang, 85, the victim, told investigators she was alone in the house on Monday morning after her kids went to work in their paddy field. While she was sitting in the basement, two women appeared and started talking to her.
They talked about various things and then asked her for something to eat, the elderly woman said.
She then said one of them touched her and she fell unconscious soon after. The two women subsequently ransacked rooms inside the house before making off with 75,000 baht in cash and 10-baht weight of gold ornaments, she said.
When her children returned home around 6pm, they found their grandmother unconscious in the basement.
They later found their rooms ransacked and the valuables missing and immediately alerted police.
The officers took a statement from Mrs Yodkaew and showed her pictures of two suspects who were thought to have preyed on victims in other provinces by drugging them.
Mrs Yodkaew positively identified both suspects as the ones who came to her house.
The police and local village leaders have asked residents to keep a watchful eye out for strangers in their villages and be wary of being approached.
