Thieves stole a $300 float in a till and the point of sale tablet from doughnut shop Krofne in Gungahlin, a business that employs people with special needs.
Owner Danijela Vrkic said her husband John was setting up on Thursday morning when a group of youths stole the items. He gave chase but they got away.
The store, in the Gungahlin Marketplace, had to be closed for the day, costing $1500 in trade. Staff arrived for work only to be told they had to go home.
"It's just devastating," Mrs Vrkic said.
Krofne will re-open on Friday at 9am. Grab a delicious doughnut in support of this great business.
Mrs Vrkic said police suspected who was responsible and she was confident the culprits would "get their just desserts. So to speak".
The Vrkics were inspired to create Krofne, in 2016, by their son, Anthony, who has Down syndrome.
The couple started the family business with a vision that Anthony would be fully involved in the production, sale, and distribution of Krofne's European-style doughnuts.
It has grown to give a range of people with special needs meaningful employment.
