Thieves break into new cafe with the 'best view in Nottingham' forcing temporary closure

A new cafe with a picturesque view of Nottingham has been forced to close this morning after thieves broke in and tried to steal the slush machine.

Offenders ripped off the door and shutter at Greenwood Coffee Spot, which recently opened in a tiny pavilion overlooking the former bowling green, off Greenwood Road, in Bakersfield.

Former hairdresser Lindsy Hunt and her bus driver husband Craig, who set up the pit-stop for coffee, bacon cobs and cake, are spending this morning cleaning up the debris and getting the damage repaired.

Lindsy said: "We can’t open this morning as it needs a good clean and the door and shutter was totally ripped off. They tried to steal the Slush Puppie machine, although they didn’t succeed it did get smashed in the process.

"Nothing of any value is ever kept there so it’s just the upset of everything else -  sad because we had such a positive start but we should be open later today."

The couple have been inundated with messages of support after announcing the break-in on Facebook.

Fans of the alfresco coffee shop, said to have the 'best view in Nottingham' as customers can see for miles, have been angered and saddened by the burglary.

Alison Claire Gill wrote: "So sorry to hear this. It makes me so angry. You try and make something nice for the community and there's always someone who tries to ruin it."

Stacey Webster said: "So sorry to hear this! What’s wrong with people?! Hope things are sorted and you’re back up and running soon."

Susanne Peace posted: "So sad that we live in a world where people have to spoil something so good... for what gain? So sorry for you."
