Thieves break into ambulance base and steal money raised at Macmillan Coffee Morning

Thieves broke into in an ambulance base and stole money raised by paramedics at a Macmillan Coffee morning.

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said the Patient Transport Service in Wigan was targeted at some point after 11pm on Friday night.

Up to £80 raised at the coffee morning and cake sale was stolen during the break-in.

Photos shared by NWAS showed a smashed window and a damaged CCTV camera.

Supporters of the ambulance service shared their outrage in response to a post on Facebook.

NWAS' post said: "After staff hosted and raised money for Macmillian during a coffee morning last Friday, thieves broke into our Patient Transport Service base in Wigan after 11pm that night and stole the money that was raised and along with another charity box.

"The team are not sure how much was in the box as it hadn’t yet been counted but they estimate it’s around £70 to £80.

"The police are investigating."

In response, Facebook user Julie Sharrock said: "I am lost for words."

Janet Swinburn added: "Lowest of the low stealing charity money."

"Utterly disgusting behaviour. They should ashamed," said Jasmine Dawn.

One of the photos shared showed NWAS staff with cakes they had made for the coffee morning earlier that day.
