Thieves attempt to cut open Co-op cash machine before fleeing empty handed

Thieves attempted to raid a cash machine at a Co-op store in Cropwell Bishop before fleeing empty-handed.

Police believe a cutting tool was used in an attempt to break open the cash machine on the store in Nottingham Road.

The thieves fled the scene having failed to access the money inside the machine during the incident which happened between 1am and 2am on Sunday, December 15.

The cash machine was severely damaged by the tool.

Detective Sergeant Luke Todd, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was clearly an attempt at damaging a cash machine to the point at which cash could have been stolen.

"While the offenders were unsuccessful, they have damaged the machine and it will need significant repair work in order for it to function again.

"We do not believe this incident is linked to other reports of ATM breaks.

"If you saw anything, have dashcam footage or any other information that could help us in our investigation, please contact us on 101 and quote incident number 210 of 15 December 2019. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
