Thierry Mugler dead: Iconic French designer who dressed Beyonce and Lady Gaga dies aged 73

Thierry Mugler has died at the age of 72 his team said in a sad post on his Instagram page.

The iconic French fashion designer passed away on Sunday according to the post.

So far, no cause of death is known.

The post told of his passing to his 606,000 followers in both French and English.

Together with a blank black image, the caption read: "#RIP We are devastated to announce the passing of Mr Manfred Thierry Mugler on Sunday January 23rd 2022. May his soul Rest In Peace."

His death appears to be unexpected, with the star not known to be in ill health.

Mugler made his name in the fashion industry throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, with his designs being showcased in many different places, from the runway to stage shows.

Throughout his illustrious career, Mugler dressed a wide range of stars across the entertainment and music world, including Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, George Michael, David Bowie, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Rihanna and many more.

He was the man behind Kim Kardashian's Met Gala look in 2019 after he came out of retirement to dress the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star.

As well as his huge clothing contributions over three decades, Mugler also left his mark in the fragrance industry after creating a large line of best-selling perfumes.

His most recent fragrance called Angel Nova hit the shelves in June 2020.

Following the news breaking, tributes began to pour in.

Among those to comment on the announcement on his Instagram page was Bella Hadid, who wrote: "Nonononono," followed by a sad face emoji.

Fashion model Georgia May Jagger also left a message, writing: "I cannot believe this is true sending love to you all. Thierry was a force of creativity and kindness."

She finished her post with a broken heart emoji.

Kris Jenner was among the nearly 40,000 people who had "liked" the post within the first hour of it being published.

Fans and famous faces also flocked to Twitter to share messages of condolences.

One user wrote: "Can’t believe manfred thierry mugler has passed away at age 73, may he rest in peace."

Another penned: "Rest easy to manfred thierry mugler, one of the greatest fashion designers of all time. His impact on the fashion industry will continue to live on forever."
