Thierry Henry has told Cristiano Ronaldo and Ralf Rangnick to put their egos to one side in order to find the best way forward for Manchester United.
Rangnick was at Old Trafford on Thursday evening as United took on Arsenal, having been named as the club’s new interim manager earlier this week.
The German will officially take charge for the first time on Sunday, with a delay over his work visa meaning Michael Carrick continued in temporary charge.
One of the biggest talking points amid Rangnick’s arrival is how he will utilise Ronaldo, having previously been less than complimentary with some of his comments on the Portuguese star.
Many believe Rangnick’s style will not suit Ronaldo, with the 63-year-old’s sides famed for a high press that has influenced the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel.
Ronaldo has been questioned over his capability to press this season, although his omission at times this season has led to eyebrows being raised in various quarters.
And Henry believes the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will have to come to a compromise with Rangnick in order to find the best way of fitting into his system.
“We shouldn’t talk about the man, what he can achieve, what he can do, or what he did achieve and what he can still do,” Henry told Amazon Prime Video.
“Now, it’s going to have to be a discussion between Rangnick and him because we all know that’s part of the game he lacks the most and that is part of the game Rangnick likes the most - pressing and counter pressing.
“So, they need to have a discussion on who is going to give up a little bit on what they usually like to do and ego’s going to have to be put on the side at one point for the good of this club.
“It shouldn’t be a Ronaldo thing or a Rangnick thing, they need to find a way to pull this club forward.”
