Thierry Henry tells Jamie Carragher he's wrong about Liverpool star Mohamed Salah

Thierry Henry has admitted that he disagrees with Jamie Carragher's view that Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is the best player in the world.

Instead, the Arsenal legend thinks Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema is ahead of the Liverpool ace as he is more of a complete player.

Both forwards have been in scintillating form this season, with Salah having scored 12 times, while Benzema has netted 11 for Los Blancos.

The duo have only failed to score in just one game in all competitions this season.

And the two were once again on the scoresheet for their respective clubs in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Benzema scored in injury time to round-off the 5-0 thumping of Shakhtar Donetsk, while Salah scored two penalties to ensure his side beat Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano.

And while many may disagree with Henry’s claim, the Frenchman has insisted Benzema offers more on the international stage, and has been performing at an elite level for a lot longer than Salah.

“Not yet,” Henry said in response to Carragher’s claim on CBS. “The goals that he is scoring, at the moment, are very good. But how can you forget about Lewandowski? How can you forget about Benzema? How can you forget doing it at the national level also?

“Right now, he’s suffering a bit with Egypt. It’s not easy. But he’s not doing in there yet. But those goals are ridiculous. I love Salah. But he’s not yet the best.

“Is he the best player right now in the Premier League? By a distance. On current form are you not putting Benzema there right now, with the way he is playing? What he is doing for France and at the Euros? It’s not that clear, for me.

Carragher then responded to Henry’s claim and said: “is that because he is French?" to which Henry replies: “Yes, because I am watching those games.

“This is why Benzema is ahead because he has been a complete player, with goals for a long time. Salah is becoming a good (complete) player (now), not only a great goalscorer.”

While the opinion may not be the most popular one, Benzema is currently in the form of his life for the Spanish giants.

The Frenchman has already scored nine times in LaLiga in just eight matches and has also provided seven assists.

The 33-year-old is well on his way to surpassing his goalscoring best in of 24 goals in a season in LaLiga, which he achieved in 2016.

Benzema has scored twice and provided an assist in his three Champions League appearances this season, with his strike on Tuesday adding to his goal in the 2-1 defeat to minnows FC Sheriff last time out.

The Real Madrid forward has also been influential for his country of late, by helping France to the UEFA Nations League title earlier this month.

Benzema was on the scoresheet in both the semi-final against Belgium, while he also netted with a fantastic curling effort in the 2-1 win over Spain in the final.
