Thierry Henry supports news two Premier League footballers are set to come out, calling it 'good for the game'

Thierry Henry has given his full support to the two football players that are set to come out, saying it’s going to be “good for the game” to have openly gay players in the UK.

Speaking to Sky News’ Kay Burley, Henry said it's a sign of the times that men are comfortable coming out after the sport has stigmatised homosexuality for so long.

“People are making it too much of a problem. [Being openly gay] should okay by now, we’re living in a different time, a different world, and people should accept that.”

Reports emerged over the weekend that two footballers, including an England player and a Premier League player, were set to come out as gay before the start of the next season.

Their friends and family have been told, and the Football Association is lending the two men their full support as they prepare to be the first players to publicly announce they are gay while in the top flight of English football.

Henry said it was about time that football’s attitude to gay men was more in line than with the rest of the world.

“I think it’s great. I think it’s great for the game and going forward it’s great for any human being.”
