Thierry Henry shuts down Jamie Carragher claim over Liverpool star Mohamed Salah

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah was on the scoresheet once again as Liverpool beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Egyptian's form this season has left many describing him as 'the best player in the world right now', including former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

However, not everyone agrees. Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes other players, such as Karim Benzema, are performing at a national level, as well as club level.

“Not yet,” Henry said in response to Carragher’s claim on CBS.

“The goals that he is scoring, at the moment, are very good. But how can you forget about Lewandowski? How can you forget about Benzema? How can you forget doing it at the national level also?

“Right now, he’s suffering a bit with Egypt. It’s not easy. But he’s not doing in there yet. But those goals are ridiculous. I love Salah. But he’s not yet the best.

“Is he the best player right now in the Premier League? By a distance. On current form are you not putting Benzema there right now, with the way he is playing? What he is doing for France and at the Euros? It’s not that clear, for me.

“This is why Benzema is ahead because he has been a complete player, with goals for a long time.

"Salah is becoming a good (complete) player (now), not only a great goalscorer.”

Benzema scored for Real Madrid in their Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk last night.

Los Blancos won 5-0 against the Ukrainian outfit and Benzema netted the fifth deep into stoppage time.

The 33-year-old has scored nine times in eight La Liga appearances so far this season and registered seven assists, he's also scored twice in their three Champions League matches so far.

Salah, on the other hand, has seven Premier League goals in eight appearances and four assists. He's also scored five in Europe so far.
