Thierry Henry's Instagram message to James Maddison with Arsenal chiefs 'confident' of £60m deal

Thierry Henry appears to be a big fan of Arsenal transfer target James Maddison.

Prior to the summer window officially opening last week, it was revealed that signing a creative midfielder was at the top of Gunners manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu's priority list.

However, Arsenal have already suffered a couple of blows in their attempts to sign one.

Firstly, they were beaten to the signing of Emiliano Buendia by Aston Villa before it emerged that Martin Odegaard - who spent the second half of the season just gone on loan with the north London outfit - is likely to stay at Real Madrid.

As a result, Arteta and Edu have had to look elsewhere to fill the creative midfield void.

football.london revealed on Tuesday the Spaniard is an admirer of Maddison and will target him this summer as the 24-year-old is 'at the top of the list' for the Gunners.

Although, the one major sticking point for Arsenal is Leicester's demands of over £60million.

With that said, the Daily Mail claim that Gunners officials are 'confident' that a package worth about £60m may get the deal done this summer in a major statement of intent.

So, if Arsenal are to overcome the obstacle of the fee, they will be signing a player that the club's all-time record goalscorer in Henry has heaped praise on in the past.

"Keep on doing what you’re doing because I love the way you’re playing," Henry told Maddison during an Instagram live session for PUMA Football. "I like to watch players like you. (Players) that think.

"Thinking is important in the game and there’s one thing we don’t use often, which is our brain."

"Don’t be scared of having a big ego."
