Thierry Henry's brilliant gesture and Bukayo Saka's future amid Arsenal contract talks

All the latest news from around the Emirates Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Henry auctions milestone shirt to raise money for NHS

Gunners legend Thierry Henry has made a brilliant gesture by auctioning the shirt he wore when he scored his 100th goal for Arsenal to raise money for the NHS.

Arsenal’s record scorer hit the milestone in a 3-0 win over Birmingham at St Andrews in 2003.

Playing for the opposition that day was Robbie Savage who swapped shirts with the Frenchman at full time and has had it in his possession ever since.

Following discussions between the two players, it was agreed the match-worn shirt would be auctioned to raise money for NHS Charities Together, which works with 250 NHS charities.

Posted on ebay, bidding has already exceeded £2,000 at the time of writing - with nine days remaining before the winning auction is confirmed.

Former Gunners striker reveals regrets over departure

Former Arsenal youth prospect Jay Bothroyd has opened up about his controversial exit from the club as a teenager.

The striker was sold to Coventry City as an 18-year-old in 2000 following his reaction to being substituted in the FA Youth Cup final.

Bothroyd, frustrated at his removal, threw his shirt at youth coach and Gunners legend Don Howe.

Despite the Gunners going on to win the final, the player left the club in a £1 million deal a few weeks later.

"I have regrets about throwing my shirt, but it's stuff I've got to live with," he admitted.

Saka contract update as rivals eye Gunners star

Arsenal’s contract talks with breakthrough star Bukayo Saka could hit a stumbling block over the 18-year-old’s preferred position

However, with the player’s current deal set to expire in 2021 and talks ongoing, Saka could be reluctant to put pen to paper if the two parties are at odds as to where his long term future in the team lies.

Speaking earlier this year, Saka admitted he would like to play further forward.

“I feel like my dream was always to be a winger, to affect games, score goals and get assists.” he told Sky Sports. “For now I’ll do the job the manager asks me to.”
