Thierry Henry's Arsenal record which would remain intact if the Premier League season is voided

Football in England has been postponed until at least 3 April in the wake of the global coronavirus outbreak.

The Premier League, FA, EFL and WSL released a joint statement last week confirming that all forthcoming matches in their competitions will be postponed following a number of reported cases at football clubs.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi both tested positive for the virus, while there have been reports of players and staff suffering symptoms at other clubs.

With uncertainty about how clubs are going to fulfill the remainder of their fixtures before the summer, one of the possible - albeit unlikely - options is to void the entire campaign and remove the season from the records.

This would controversially deny Liverpool a first league title since 1990, and stop sides like Sheffield United and Wolves from seriously challenging for a Champions League place despite being well placed to do so.

A complete cancellation of the season would also stop certain players from adding to their personal goals and assist tallies.

Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne has enjoyed yet another stellar season at the Etihad, despite his side looking certain to relinquish their title to Liverpool before the postponement of games.

The City midfielder notched his 16th assist of the campaign in the 2-0 win over West Ham in February, after his corner was headed in by Rodri.

De Bruyne has also scored eight goals this season, meaning the midfielder has 24 goal involvements in total, three more than any other player.

Jamie Vardy is behind on 23 with 19 goals and four assists, while Mohamed Salah is on 22 with 16 goals and six assists.

City teammate Sergio Aguero makes up the top four with 16 goals and three assists.

However, De Bruyne's performance against the Hammers in February was also significant because it meant he edged ever closer to breaking Thierry Henry's record for the most assists in a Premier League season.

Arsenal's all-time top scorer Henry created 20 assists over the course of the 2002/03 season, a record which has stood ever since.

With City still to play 10 matches in the current campaign, the Belgian only needs a further five assists to break Henry's tally.

But with the top flight in lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic, there is a chance that Henry's record may stay intact until next season.
