Arsenal legend Thierry Henry was not wrong about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
In the 2018 January transfer window, the Gabon international was signed from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £56 million to replace the goals lost after Alexis Sanchez left for Manchester United, and the 31-year-old has certainly not disappointed since joining.
And immediately after Aubameyang had made the switch to the Emirates Stadium, Henry backed the striker to make a name for himself in north London.
"At the end of the day, you need to score goals," Henry told Sky Sports after Arsenal had signed the 31-year-old back in January 2018.
"If they come from outside of the box or not, it is what it is.
"I back him to be a success for Arsenal Football Club and that’s the most important thing."
Henry backed Aubameyang to be a success and that prediction has most certainly proven to be correct time and time again as the latter has been a hit at Arsenal.
Last season the striker became the first Gunners player to reach a half-century of Premier League goals in under 80 matches when he netted against Norwich City and he also struck twice in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.
And on Sunday afternoon, Aubameyang netted his first Premier League hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Leeds United to prove Henry right once again.
It has been a difficult season for Aubameyang, but he has been backed by manager Mikel Arteta to build on his performance against Marcelo Bielsa's side.
"Yes, I thought he was superb today," the Spaniard said during his post-match press conference.. "He’s been training really good the last week or so. He was back to normal he looked really committed in training, really hungry.
"And I think today that he had a great performance. Not only for the goals but as well for the way he worked without the ball, the amount of pressure that he put on every Leeds defender.
"He set the tone for the team up top. I’m delighted for him and he deserves it.
"We know that a big part of our future success is related to Auba being at his best and scoring as many goals as possible. If he’s at that type of form we’re gonna be closer to winning football matches that’s clear.
"We cannot just rely on him but he’s a big piece of our puzzle. You saw today again that when he’s firing, he’s a very difficult player to play against."
