Thierry Henry names the Manchester United player Arsenal were most scared of

Thierry Henry has revealed Arsenal were most afraid of facing Paul Scholes when they came up against Manchester United.

United and Arsenal were involved in infamous title battles at the turn of the century, with a formidable rivalry forming off the back of their clashes.

Henry was recently named an inaugural inductee of the Premier League's new hall of fame and he believes United legend Scholes should join him after being included on the shortlist of names to be the next included.

Appearing on Sky Sports, Henry and fellow pundit Jamie Carragher had to choose who they felt the next six inductees into the hall of fame should be.

Thousands of Manchester United fans protest against the club's owners

Whilst Carragher went for former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard, Henry argued it should be Scholes.

Pointing to his own first-hand experience of facing United, the former forward said Scholes' ability was summed up by the fact he was a standout player in such a good side.

He said: "I'm also a Steven Gerrard lover, as you know, and he knows that too, but Paul Scholes...

"Listen, when we used to play Man United, and you guys know the team they had, how great they were, every time we played them, we wanted to stop him.

"He was making the team tick. In that team.

"That first pass to the striker, coming and joining and then smashing the ball in from 25 yards, off Dwight Yorke or Andy Cole.

"We were scared of him. I'm not saying we weren't scared of the others but him first and foremost.

"'Let's stop him' - if you stop him, you stop a lot of Man United and that speaks volumes about that because they had a great team."
