Thierry Henry issues fierce warning to Manchester United players

Premier League legend Thierry Henry has issued a warning to the Manchester United players saying that the onus is now on them and they need to show "desire" to play for the club.

It comes after the recent disappointing showings under Ralf Rangnick which has led his players to be thrust under the spotlight.

Eddie Howe's side held the Reds to a draw but it could've been worse had it not been for David de Gea after he made a number of important saves to keep the Magpies at bay.

In their last two games they have picked up four points against two of the bottom three as they were forced into a 16-day layoff after the win over Norwich.

But it continues to be the same old story in terms of disjointed performances from United, seen under the German's predecessors.

As a result of Monday's performance, the 63-year-old made six changes for the visit of Sean Dyche's side.

Henry has highlighted the importance of the current United crop to show 'desire, will and commitment', traits that have been lacking in their recent displays.

" Right now in the table, they are heading the other way. It is always tough when a new manager comes in," he told Amazon Prime.

"New ideas, counter-pressing and gegenpressing as they call it in Germany - it is never easy to adapt to that. The player have to bring stuff to the table and the stuff is desire, will, commitment.

"We’re seeing here with Rangnick, we all know what he is going to bring. The players, they need to show that they are now playing for Manchester United."

Roberto Martinez raised question marks around the summer recruitment that has failed to live up to its excitement.

The Belgium boss added: "We haven’t seen the United we expected. With the new signings, the recruitment - it was such an exciting recruitment in the summer - at the moment we haven’t seen the team we expected."
